Jeff Dunham coming to Amalie Arena in Tampa
You might wonder how a man with a trunk full of puppets -- puppets, it should be noted, that some consider offensive -- can headline an actual arena.
If you're a Jeff Dunham fan, however, you don't care how he does it. You're just happy he does.
Dunham, one of the most famous ventriloquists ever and one of the top-earning comics in America today, is returning to Amalie Arena in Tampa on Feb. 24, the venue announced today. Joining him, as always, will be his muppety, puppety squad: Peanut (above), Walter, Jose Jalapeno on a Stick, Achmed the Dead Terrorist and many more.
Hmmm, you're thinking. Achmed the Dead Terrorist. That doesn't sound very P.C. Well, no, it's not. Neither is Jose Jalapeno on a Stick. Muslims and Hispanics have criticized Dunham's broad portrayal of those characters in his stand-up.
But that hasn't stopped Dunham from becoming a comedy superstar. With income of $19 million, Forbes ranked Dunham the world's fourth highest-paid comedian in 2015, just behind Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart and fellow ventriloquist Terry Fator, and tied with international superstar Russell Peters.
But you don't need to see his accountant's ledger to know he's a superstar. How many comedians these days actually play arenas around the country like Amalie? There's Kevin Hart, Dane Cook ... who else?
Tickets to see Dunham in Tampa are $46.25, and they go on sale Monday. Click here for details.
