LL Cool J talks 'Accidental Racist,' Eddie Van Halen, his Kings of the Mic competition and more

Hip-hop icon LL Cool J is leading one of the most interesting tours of the summer, the Kings of the Mic Tour, featuring Public Enemy, Ice Cube and De La Soul. The tour hits the Mahaffey Theater on Thursday (tickets start at $49.50, click here for details).

But when we got him on the phone the other day, we couldn't help but ask: What was up with Accidental Racist, that WTF-ish single with Brad Paisley?

"As an artist, you express the thoughts that are on your mind," Cool J said about people taking issue with any of his songs.

"I'm not doing music for controversial reasons. I do it for the love. There are no rules in music, you create what you create. When we decided to do Accidental Racist, we didn't know people on the fringe would react the way they did. But music is like a Rorschach test, isn't it?"
