Mayhem Festival lineup: Rob Zombie, Mastodon, more coming to the Live Nation Amphitheatre in Tampa

How does the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Tour follow an epic 2012 lineup that included Slayer, Slipknot, Motorhead and Anthrax?

Well ... the short answer is, you can't. The 2012 lineup was one for the ages. But that doesn't mean there isn't much to love about this year's Mayhem Festival, the lineup to which has just been unveiled.

Rob Zombie, Mastodon, Five Finger Death Punch and Amon Amarth are the main stage headliners for this year's Mayhem Festival, which hits Tampa's Live Nation Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds on July 31. Other artists on the bill: Children of Bodom, Machine Head, Job For a Cowboy, Behemoth, Emmure, Born of Osiris, Motionless In White, Butcher Babies, Battlecross, Thrown Into Exile, Huntress, City in the Sea and more.

All in all, it's a lineup that's bound to cater more to metal diehards than casual fans. Rob Zombie was just here last fall, and Mastodon is long overdue for a Tampa Bay show, but don't overlook the appeal of having three European death metal bands, Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom and Behemoth, on one bill.

Tickets to this year's Mayhem Festival go onsale at noon Friday, with $20 lawn tickets through Monday. Otherwise, tickets are $25.50-$64.50. Click here for details.
