MS MR playing free concert in St. Petersburg for travel series 'The Navigator Live'
If you notice a man and woman who look an awful lot like New York electro-pop duo MS MR wandering the streets of St. Petersburg this week, you're not seeing things. It's really them.
The duo is hitting the Sunshine City to film an episode of The Navigator Live, a travel series produced by AXS TV in conjunction with Renaissance Hotels. Their experience will culminate with a free concert Friday at the Vinoy Renaissance Hotel & Golf Club. And here's the best part: You, too, can get on the guest list.
First, a bit about the series. Airing on AXS TV (the Mark Cuban-founded station formerly known as HDNet) and in Renaissance hotel rooms, it takes indie artists to hotels in cities around the country -- Walk the Moon in Atlanta, Capital Cities in Chicago, Grouplove in New York, Awolnation in Dallas, etc. MS MR's episode, which should premiere sometime in March, is the first one shot in Florida.
Each episode also features footage shot at a local concert -- and in MS MR's case, that'll take place at 6 p.m. Friday at the Vinoy. The best part is, it's free -- all you have to do is RSVP by clicking here. But space is limited, so there's no guarantee you'll get in.
It should be a good show. MS MR's sophomore album How Does It Feel, which came out this summer, features more of their icy, stylish indie pop. Singer Lizzy Plapinger co-founded influential label Neon Gold, which helped launch artists like Passion Pit, Tove Lo, Ellie Goulding, Haim, Icona Pop, Gotye and Charli XCX, among many others.
Anytime you have an artist that cool taking nice, long look at your city, it's a good thing. Who knows? Maybe they'll be scouting for talent, too.
