Marshmello, who performed at the Sunset Music Festival in Tampa on May 29, will return to Tampa on July 3 for a concert at Beach Bar.

A spring of upheaval in the Tampa Bay electronic music scene has just taken another big turn.

Insomniac Events, the electronic music tour and festival producer behind the Electric Daisy Carnival and other major EDM events, has inked a deal with Tampa's Beach Bar that'll bring more than a dozen top DJs to town throughout the summer.

Among the acts slated to perform: Dillon Francis, Marshmello (above), Adventure Club, Excision, Zomboy, Flosstradamus, GTA and more. The concert series kicks off June 12 and ends Aug. 28.

The timing of the announcement is noteworthy, as Tampa's electronic music scene has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons.

In April, the Amphitheatre, a huge EDM hotspot in Ybor City, was destroyed in a fire, forcing the club to relocate upcoming concerts by artists like Infected Mushroom, Kill the Noise and Morgan Page. Those shows all moved to the Ritz Ybor, along with the Amphitheatre's themed nights (#POUND Fridays, Saturday's AMP!D House Party and Mischief Mondays), in effect transforming the Ritz's identity.

Last week brought the fifth annual Sunset Music Festival, co-founded by Amphitheatre owner John Santoro and produced by Disco Donnie Presents, an Insomniac rival. While some 30,000 fans attended both days, two people died and 57 were hospitalized, prompting Mayor Bob Buckhorn to demand an inquiry into the event's safety, and saying: "This is not the type of event that Tampa wants to be known for."

Meanwhile, Beach Bar, located on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, has been booking more and more DJs since opening this spring -- which might sound familiar to local EDM fans. The club used to be Hogan's Beach, owned by Hulk Hogan and famous for booking acts like Skrillex, Cedric Gervais and the Chainsmokers. But that club stopped holding concerts largely in response to noise complaints from nearby residents.

And this new Sunday EDM series isn't Beach Bar's only big musical happening this summer. They've also linedup reggae-rock concerts, Fourth of July weekend festivities and more.
