Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden coming to the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa
Oh, you thought Linkin Park and Thirty Seconds To Mars was a blockbuster tour? Check this out: Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden are teaming up for a summer trek across America, and it includes a stop in Tampa.
The two icons of '90s alt-rock are coming to Tampa's MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Aug. 11, they both announced Saturday. According to Nine Inch Nails' website, tickets will go on sale to the general public March 21. We'll update you as soon as we know more.
***UPDATE*** Tickets are $29.50-$99.50, and they will in fact go on sale March 21. Click here for details.
To say this is announcement is earth-shaking would be an understatement. Nine Inch Nails haven't performed in Tampa since 2005 (Correction: They played the then-Ford Amphiteatre in 2009); at that point, Soundgarden had been broken up for eight years. Since that time, Trent Reznor has released even more acclaimed music, even winning an Oscar for his score for The Social Network; and Soundgarden have played festivals all over the world -- but none in Florida. Singer Chris Cornell did play the Tampa Theatre solo a couple of years ago, but canceled a date at the Mahaffey Theater in December.
And if you're worried these two giants won't play the hits, Pitchfork notes that 2014 is the 20th anniversary of the two bands' masterworks, Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral and Soundgarden's Superunknown. Maybe they'll be in a nostalgic mood.
Making this tour even more insane: Death Grips will open all dates, including Tampa. While far from a household name, the noise-punk outfit was named Spin magazine's Artist of the Year in 2012 for their take-no-prisoners, give-no-quarter approach to their music, their live shows and the music industry as a whole. This will be their first gig in Tampa.
