Patients at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital just got a stocking treat, courtesy of an online visit from ballet dancers a half hour away. The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts is live-streaming today’s 2 p.m. performance of Nutcracker to All Children’s patients, the first event of its kind in a new relationship between the hospital and the Straz.

The cast of 175 features dancers, gymnasts, guest artists and a chorus. Next Generation Ballet is a program of the Straz’s Patel Conservatory, which has helped some of its graduates land positions at leading ballet schools and ballet companies.  This rendition comes with all the trimmings, from toy soldiers and dancing mice to snow on stage. It will be led by adult stars, principal dancers Isabella Boylston and James Whiteside of the American Ballet Theatre.

Performances start at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday, at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, Morsani Hall, 1010 N MacInnes Place, Tampa. Tickets start at $40. Dessert buffet 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Maestro’s Restaurant costs $22.50, $13.50 children 12 and under. (813) 229-7827. strazcenter.org.
