Review: Loretta Lynn charms the Mahaffey Theatre in St. Petersburg
At 81, Loretta Lynn is nearing the end of a legendary country career. But during a short, sweet set at St. Petersburg's Mahaffey Theater Saturday night, Lynn chugged through some 80 minutes of classics, including the puckish The Pill, a shocker in its day, and the still sadly relevant Dear Uncle Sam, which gave the show its poignant centerpiece. And she still unleashes that cold-shower cannonball, Don't Come Home a Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind), with purpose and a simmering resentment.
