SoundBytes: Family of the Year, the Mowgli's, Iceage and more
-- California indie-folk outfit Family of the Year should appeal to fans of Grouplove, Of Monsters and Men and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes; you’ve probably heard their track Chugjug in a commercial somewhere. And the Mowgli’s (yes, the apostophe is supposed to be there) have a rising rock hit in San Fransisco. So their combined show at the Ritz Ybor on March 22 should be a big one — especially since tickets are only $10-$12. Click here.
-- What’s the world coming to when we have two buzzworthy bands called Ice Age? Technically, Ice Age is a metal band from New York, and Iceage is a post-punk outfit from Denmark. The Danish group is the one that’ll be coming to Crowbar in Ybor City on June 8. Click here for dates.
-- If you slept on reserved tickets to Blake Shelton’s concert on March 10 at the Florida Strawberry Festival, bad news — it’s sold out. Your best chance at getting in is to line up outside the stadium early that day for one of about 3,000 first-come, first-served seats.
-- Freestyle music isn’t the same thing as freestyle rapping. It’s a type of electro-dance-pop music that was popular in the late '80s and early '90s. And a massive freestyle tour is coming to the USF Sun Dome on March 23. Rob Base (It Takes Two) is the biggest name on the bill, but you can also see The Cover Girls (Show Me), Lisette Melendez (Together Forever) and members of TKA (Louder Than Love). Tickets start at $40.50. Click here.
