Tampa's Fabulous Rockers reuniting for documentary, concert at Florida State Fairgrounds
In the early days of rock 'n' roll, Tampa's Fabulous Rockers reached loftier heights than most local dance bands. Their song, Would I Still Be Loving You, made the regional Top 40 chart and played on radio stations around Florida.
Because of that, the group twice earned invitations to New York City's Peppermint Lounge. They played a four-week stint and a six-week stint at the rock 'n' roll mecca of the era. Later they would share a stage with artists like Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Four Seasons and more
"You can imagine — we were teenagers — this success sort of hit us blindsided," Pupello said. "I guess, we had stars in our eyes."
On Saturday, the band will reunite for a big show at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Almost all the original members and those who joined later will perform. A documentary on the group, set to air on WUSF-Ch. 16 at 8 p.m. Feb. 15, will be screened for the first time at the concert.
