The Doors' Robby Krieger coming to the Tamiami Club in St. Pete Beach
Here's an interesting show coming to a venue many Tampa Bay music fans have likely never heard of.
Robby Krieger, the guitarist for the Doors, is coming to the Tamiami Club at 6800 Sunset Way in St. Pete Beach. That's the former home of several clubs, most famously St. Petersburg Nights, the Russian entertainment outpost known for dancing bears and a huge selection of vodka.
But a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer like Krieger is a whole 'nother story. The Tamiami Club is small, with a capacity of around 500-pluss. The last time Krieger played Tampa Bay was at last year's Sunshine Music Festival in Vinoy Park (he sounded great, too); before that, it was St. Pete's Palladium in 2013. You don't often get to see a rocker like Krieger in such an intimate space.
Also notably, it's a big-time concert out on the Pinellas County beaches, which is a part of Tampa Bay that just doesn't see that many big-time concerts (Madeira Beach's fling with Boy George notwithstanding).
This concert was booked by John C. "Jack" Bodziak, who brought live music to Ferg's Sports Bar in St. Petersburg before that venue pulled the plug on its concert series. With Ferg's out of the musical picture, perhaps more events like this one will find their way to St. Pete Beach. The Tamiami already has one other show on the books: Kottonmouth Kings on Jan. 17.
Tickets to Krieger's show are $29.99 to $99.95, and they go on sale Saturday. Click here for details.
