Underoath playing surprise show at Crowbar in Tampa on Sunday
Underoath’s March 16 reunion tour kickoff at Jannus Live sold out almost as soon as it was announced. But if you missed out on tickets, this is your lucky day.
The Christian metalcore superstars just announced a surprise show on Sunday at Crowbar, 1812 N 17th St., Ybor City. Sentries, Preson Phillips and Brother Cephus are also on the bill. Tickets are $10, and it’s first-come, first served. Doors open at 6 p.m., but considering Crowbar’s intimate quarters, you’d better get there early if you want a slot inside.
The band has been rehearsing off and on since last month for this reunion tour, with singer Spencer Chamberlain and singer-drummer Aaron Gillespie, who both now live out of town, flying in for practice. In an interview, Chamberlain said Jannus Live was the ideal place to launch their reunion tour, but a low-key show to work out any last-minute kinks is probably a good idea.
“I’ve been singing every day since the band broke up,” Chamberlain said. “Aaron’s been on tour with Paramore since basically he left the band. I was a little worried about the other guys who hadn’t been touring a lot, but everyone came in really prepared. I was actually impressed — not that I was worried, I just didn’t know. The breakup was such a big deal, people sold their gear, it was a never-doing-this-again kind of thing for a lot of those guys. So when everyone showed up, I was getting chills down my whole body while we were playing some of those songs.”
