Ybor City Amphitheatre fire: Tribute planned, GoFundMe launched
A big chunk of Ybor City's Seventh Avenue remained closed on Friday following Wednesday's fire at the Amphitheatre, the top electronic music club in Tampa Bay.
But one by one, a handful of nearby businesses were beginning to open back up. And Tampa's EDM community is beginning to rally and show some PLUR for the club that for five years has been like a second home.
Amphitheatre owner John Santoro on Friday launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the club's staff, who will be without income for the foreseeable future. Click here to see it.
And on Saturday, 93.3-FLZ will turn its prime-time programming over to a tribute to the Amphitheatre. Program director Brian Fink will welcome DJs who've spun there (DJ Icey, Baby Anne, Mondo) as well as Santoro himself from 7 to 10 p.m. Listeners are encouraged to call in with stories.
The Amphitheatre team, meanwhile, is moving on.
"The cleanup begins!" the venue tweeted Friday. "This isn't goodbye but rather see you soon :)"
