Both appeared in one of the two stories about the event that ran on 1B of my paper this morning.

1. Star Anil Kapoor: "I just don't want to leave this place. This theater is absolutely magnificent. It's fantastic. This city has a soul, and I can see that soul in this theater."

2. Star Priyanka Chopra: "Tampa is competing with the world right now -- and won."

April's Bollywood Oscars in Tampa, as I've said here before, are a big deal not so much because of any "estimated economic impact" -- a phrase that should automatically trigger a fact-check alarm -- but because they will contribute to the slow but important work of recasting the context in which the city and the state sit, a shift from a reputation as the bottom of the country, geographically and otherwise, the persistent image of the "drip pan" Sunshine State, to that of a transnational hub of the Americas and beyond.
