President Barack Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize. Your reaction?
In a surprise announcement this morning, President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "his extraordinary
efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between
peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to
the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation. In a videotaped statement, he described the award as an “affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations,” he said he would accept it as “a call to action.”
Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson are the other sitting U.S. presidents who have received the Nobel Peace Prize. See the complete list of all winners of the Nobel Peace Prize, beginning in 1901.
Some are asking if the award comes a bit early, just 10 months into Obama's presidency. David Ufer, a TampaBay.com Facebook fan, wrote this morning wrote on our Facebook fan page: "Amazing? Unbelievable is more like it. What has this guy really done to deserve this? The hype precedes the actual results."
