Reader poll: Was labeling students 'hoodlums' a racist remark?
The Uhurus aren't the only ones upset that Pinellas School Board Chairwoman Janet Clark used the term "hoodlums" to describe some chronically disruptive students. On Tuesday night, board members Mary Brown and Linda Lerner criticized Clark, saying her comment showed insensitivity. And on Wednesday, Ray Tampa, president of the St. Petersburg chapter of the NAACP, says he's considering filing a complaint with the Florida Department of Education.
