Things to do in St. Pete: Web design conference this weekend

If you're a web designer or developer, don't miss this weekend's Front-End Design Conference in St. Petersburg. The daylong conference -- focusing on web content, presentation, and behavior -- will be held Friday, and there will be events throughout the weekend for attendees to meet and mingle.  

Seven speakers will present at the conference from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Friday  the Hilton Bayfront. The cost is $129.

Attendees can meet up for an after party from 6-9 Friday at the Garden Restaurant, 217 Central Ave. On Saturday, folks can meet at Studio 620 from 11-3 to connect and share presentations.  ... Read more

We've got Tampa Bay's evacuation maps, all the information you need for hurricane season

hurricane_wilma If you live in the Tampa Bay area, check your hurricane evacuation map. You might be among the tens of thousands of families who suddenly find themselves in a more vulnerable zone.

The changes are the result of new storm surge models by the National Hurricane Center in Miami. That data, collected by a plane affixed with new topography sensors, showed considerable differences in storm surge risk in Florida's coastal communities.

So new evacuation maps are being drawn, starting with the Tampa Bay area. Here are the latest maps:

Monkey on the lam earns global attention

Do you think Tampa Bay's Mystery Monkey has an agent? Because he's gotten lots of national and international press in the last 24 hours.

The wily monkey has eluded trappers for more than a Monkey year as it traipses across the Tampa Bay area. The rhesus macaque was last seen Sunday in St. Petersburg's Tropical Shores neighborhood, but there have been sightings in Hudson, Temple Terrace, Town 'N Country and Clearwater.
