Are you on restaurant probation?

dining_out Outback's Tampa-based parent company, OSI Restaurants Inc., reported a half-billion-dollar loss in the 3 months ending 2008. The Times' Robert Trigaux says it all boils down to one trend during this recession: too few people are dining at casual restaurants, including the ones owned by OSI — Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Fleming's, Roy's and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

A few readers responded with their tales of at-home dining:

Duane: "Eating out is now a luxury that many of us have had to forego."

Tim: "My 'Steak Night Out' has become 'Grill Steak In Night.' I can buy dinner for 2 & cook it myself for the same cost as one dinner out. My dinner out is now once a month instead of once a week."

How about you: Have you rediscovered your kitchen and old cookbooks?
