Be a hero: Adopt or foster a dog

Finding new homes for pets can be a tough challenge for shelters, particularly when a pet has special needs. This Chow Chow/Australian Cattle, at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, comes with a heartwarming tale and some special health issues.

Bianca De Vita, adoption counselor for the Humane Society, shared this tale: The dog, named Baby, was discovered pregnant and unhealthy at a Tampa Bay area construction site. A construction worker took her home until her puppies were born, then turned them over to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. All the of the puppies have been adopted, but Baby is still there, with heartworm disease. She's available through the shelter's foster-to-adopt program while she undergoes treatment.
