Brooksville Wal-Mart removes Wall of Honor, angers military families

The Wall of Honor at the Wal-Mart on Broad Street in Brooksville featured photos of military personnel. Dozens of photos of military personnel covered the board as family members updated pictures and added new ones.

Then one day it was gone. The store has been remodeling, and store manager Steve Smith said the Wall of Honor was removed because it didn't fit with the upgrades. The photos are now in a scrapbook.

That explanation didn't sit well with customers.

"That's the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard," John Stenger of Brooksville, a former captain in the Army Rangers, told the St. Petersburg Times' Greg Hamilton.

When we heard the news, invited Hernando residents to share their military photos in our Community Photo Gallery. Barbara Johnson of Hudson submitted a photo of her grandson Stan MacArthur Jr., shown above in Michigan before deploying to Afghanistan for his second tour.

We'd like to see pictures of your loved ones serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Share your pictures with us, then view them in's Soldiers Photo Gallery and vote for your favorites. Here's how it works:
