Close the Ringling Museum of Art? Really?

Ringling_museum One of the cost-saving ideas FSU has floated in response to the Legislature's threat of enormous budget cuts is to shutter the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, emptying the grounds and buildings of everyone but security guards. Some say it's a game of brinkmanship over the fate of the internationally famous Sarasota institution. It's the largest university museum complex in the United States, with a world-class collection of Old Master paintings in its art museum.

What if the Legislature moves forward with this idea?
I'd be outraged, would do all I could to protest.
I have never been, don't plan on going.
Better than cutting school programs; the museum could sustain itself.
I don't think the Legislature and FSU would go that far.
