In drought, readers say 'Wake up, Florida!'

Sprinkler With all the talk about Florida's drought, It's Your Times readers are demanding answers and looking for leaders to take responsibility. "Wake up Florida before it’s too late!" wrote Bob Minthorn of Gibsonton.

Minthorn says the bottom line is: "We have too many people here and too much development for our limited water resources.

"At some point, the powers to be are going to have to realize that we have a finite water supply that will NOT support an unlimited population. The choices are fairly simple, either limit growth or find more water."

There seems to be a bit of a paradox, writes Ron Greider of St. Petersburg. "Some communities fine a homeowner for having a brown lawn; others fine them for watering.

Gene Wells of Tampa puts the blame solely on Tampa Bay Water. "They’ve spent close to $1 billion and are still incapable of fulfilling their promise of water for all," Wells writes. "It’s time to bring an end to the annual water torture TBW subjects us to.
