St. Petersburg Times editor Bill Duryea spoke by phone with reporter Meg Laughlin who has been reporting from Haiti and the Dominican Republic. A seasoned international reporter, Laughlin says she has "never seen anything in comparison to the magnitude of this horror."

Duryea also spoke with Times photographer Melissa Lyttle. Lyttle says that the poignant photographs cannot convey the sounds and the smell of death that hangs over Port-au-Prince.
