Join us for a Tweetup and Social Media Day
Friends in Tampa Bay and beyond -- I hope you can join us for two upcoming events to discuss the future of journalism and celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Poynter Institute (which owns the St. Petersburg Times). Both events will be held at Poynter in St. Petersburg.
On Nov. 3, mingle with journalists and folks involved with social media in the Tampa Bay area at a Tweetup. If you can't be there for the event, Poynter will broadcast short presentations and connect with other meetups through live-streamed video and social media. The Tweetup starts at 5:00 p.m. The Tweetup is free but drinks are $1 for soda/water, $4 for beer and $5 for wine.
If you can't be there, you can follow #p35 on Twitter or view a livestream on Poynter.org.
On Nov. 5, more than a dozen influential thought leaders in social media will explore future possibilities within journalism during Social Media Day. In addition to listening to talks from industry leaders, attendees will collaborate with others at the event and online to finish the sentence: "The future of journalism is ..." The fee for this daylong symposium is $35.
Some of the speakers include:
- Janis Krums, entrepreneur and the citizen journalist who tweeted the photo of the Hudson River plane crash.
- Lisa Stone, co-founder and CEO of BlogHer.
- Vadim Lavrusik, community manager, Mashable.
- Betsy Morgan, former CEO, Huffington Post.
Please RSVP for the Tweetup and/or Social Media Day. And let me know below which one you plan on attending, and I'll look for you.
