It's tough times for the ice cream man. Gas and insurance used to be cheap. Kids don't play outside much anymore. Prices are going up. It's just not the same as when Bill Watterson started selling ice cream in 1997.

C harles Wolfgang Arnade, who spent most of his 50-year career at the University of South Florida, died Sunday at the age of 81 Sunday in northern Virginia under hospice care. We found a column by Arnade published in the St. Petersburg Times June 29, 1991.
