Sabrinaaisenberg Aisenberg case, Section A: Today's St. Petersburg Times reported a significant development in the case of the missing toddler named Sabrina that has fascinated the bay area ever since her disappearance was first reported in November 1997. Almost immediately, suspicion fell on her parents, Steve and Marlene, in a case that seemed to mirror another notorious child disappearance the previous year, the JonBenet Ramsey case. In fact, a reporter for the National Enquirer who had interviewed Mrs. Ramsey was on the scene in Tampa to question Marlene Aisenberg, as this story from January 1998 documents. Then in 1999 came the arrests of the Aisenbergs on federal charges related to baby Sabrina's kidnapping. But by 2001, the prosecutors' case, which all along had depended on some often unintelligible wiretapped conversations, had been dropped and the couple were now living in Maryland. Four years later, the revelation came that the investigation of the case was still considered open by the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office. And in 2007, the case still generated a flurry of media attention when some reported new leads emerged.
