Of poets, musicians and the inauguration
Today's Etc. page featured local poets and musicians discussing the two artistic original works created for the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The poem by Elizabeth Alexander seemed to engender some strong negative reaction from many who heard it. The musical piece composed by legendary conductor John Williams called Air and Simple Gifts was mostly praised by those who heard it.

New ramp links Tampa airport to I-275 south

Homeless shelters need help
Michael Amidei, the Pinellas County coordinator for cold-night homeless shelters, issued a public plea for help. Donations of all kinds are needed, he said -- blankets, clothing, shoes, money. He said there is a "critical need" for sandwiches after the shelters went through 600 sandwiches in the past two nights. If you'd like to donate sandwiches or supplies, please take them to shelter nearest to you. Here's the list of shelters:
