Times staffers Dan DeWitt and Daniel Wallace were in Haiti in September, eight months after the earthquake that killed an estimated 230,000 people in and near Port-au-Prince. They reported on the recovery work of Partners in Health — co-founded by Dr. Paul Farmer, a Hernando High graduate — and to see how the organization and country had fared since their last visit.

AP tests: The Pinellas school district is trying to improve its Advanced Placement high school classes by better training teachers and better preparing students. But the latest test results show it still has a ways to go. About a quarter of the 200-plus AP teachers in Pinellas last school year had fewer than 20 percent of their students pass the standardized AP exams that are tied to the courses, according to a St. Petersburg Times review of district data.
