Listen to 911 call: Lakeland boy injured by grenade

His mother bought the grenade. His father helped him fill the grenade with black powder from firecrackers. That was back in July. Nothing happened.

On Thursday, though, 9-year-old Edward George Weise III came in contact with the grenade, which had been stored in a large flower pot on the top shelf of an entertainment center. At 5:25 p.m., the grenade exploded in the family's kitchen.

Now, Edward, a second-grader at Churchwell Elementary in Lakeland, lies in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.
