A look back: Tampa Bay fisherman show off their sharks
St. Petersburg Times’ archivists recently have scanned images from our extensive collection of photographs – some of which date back to the 1920s – either because they are historically significant or because they are great old photos.
Let's Talk will occasionally feature some of these pictures for your enjoyment, and to spark memories for some of you.
Given last week's shark news, we start with two shark photos from our archives:
Above, two friends, then University of Tampa students, stand with a 400-pound hammerhead shark they caught in July 1976 at the Fort DeSoto pier. David Pemdracky, holds the shark's head, and Jim Kipp.
On the right, Terry Burnett, 11, of Destin, stands with a 500-pound shark he caught (with the help of 50 fishermen) in Destin in July 1960.
