Mystery monkey captured in St. Petersburg
The Mystery Monkey of Tampa Bay has been caught.
Wildlife officials and a local veterinarian were in St. Petersburg's Lake Maggiore neighborhood Wednesday and apparently decided to put more bananas in the cage, said Shannon Fowler, the daughter of the woman who was bitten about three weeks ago.
Around 1 p.m., she was standing near the cage with another banana in hand, making smooching noises to the monkey, who was on a low tree branch just a few feet away. She then took a seat in a nearby chair.
Ten minutes later the monkey started making his way to the cage, apparently aware that more bananas had been placed inside. As he walked, one of the wildlife officials shot him at least once with a tranquilizer dart, she said. See photos then check out our special report.
