New trailer released for The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson movie that may be about Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard
The Master doesn't open in theaters until October, but the movie already is creating a stir, with a fictional plot apparently inspired by the Church of Scientology and its founder L. Ron Hubbard.
Times movie critic Steve Persall first wrote about the movie after a short trailer was shown at the Cannes film festival earlier this month. On Tuesday, Al Rose Promotions uploaded a second trailer on YouTube. Titled, The Master — Hopelessly Inquisitive, the new trailer shows Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lancaster Dodd, a self-described “writer, doctor, nuclear physicist (and) theoretical philosopher”, as he begins his mentorship of the wayward Freddie Sutton, played by Joaquin Phoenix.
