Photo tipped her off to pelican in peril

Andrea Lypka, a multimedia journalist, shares photos and a tale of helping rescue a pelican in St. Pete Beach. Here's her story:

"I was working on a photo project for the photography class I am taking at USF. I was on W Maritana Drive in St. PPelican_2ete Beach looking for good shots. Across the street is a little mangrove island where birds
live. When I blew up the photos in the computer, I discovered a pelican tangled in a fishing net.

"I called Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Rocks and they put me in touch with volunteer Patricia Smith. She was there in 10 minutes.

"Using a kayak she saved the bird. Smith took the bird to the sanctuary hospital where he is being treated.
