Poll: Is queer theory class at University of South Florida a 'waste of money'?

22

January

Today's St. Petersburg Times story on a course on queer theory at the University of South Florida is our most viewed story and one of our most discussed stories on tampabay.com.

David Caton's Florida Family Association has flooded USF with more than 2,500 e-mails protesting the spring semester class, which has been taught at the school for four years by Assistant professor of sociology Sara Crawley.

Caton contends the course has no educational value and wastes money as tuition rises, state support for higher education falls and some students can't get the classes they need to graduate.

"The content, I just see that as inappropriate for a tax-funded university to be involved in," Caton said Thursday. "For an allocation of resources, I think this is a very, very bad choice on the part of the University of South Florida."

At least 75 readers have posted comments on tampabay.com's story, many supportive of the course offering. Which reader comment do you agree?

No wonder the USA is beoming a second rate country.
USF has my complete support with this, sounds like the kind of class that could really get people to thinking.
What a waste of time, fighting over this!
