Previous coverage of Joseph Kubiak and the death of Joseph Brignoli

On Thursday, attorneys announced an unusual plea deal that reduced the first-degree murder charge against Christopher Kubiak to manslaughter in the shooting death of Joseph Brignoli and gave him a 12-year prison sentence instead of life. The plea deal, authorities said, was arranged after investigators determined Kubiak shot 33-year-old Brignoli to protect a child from sexual abuse.
