Readers recall the Sunshine Skyway bridge collapse in 1980
Sunday marks the 30th anniversary of the disastrous collapse of the Sunshine Skyway bridge in 1980. This weekend, tampabay.com will publish a first-person account from a man who witnessed the collapse and a offer a look back at our previous coverage of the tragedy.
The Skyway came tumbling down when the 606-foot freighter Summit Venture rammed into a pier on May 9, 1980. Vehicles, including a Greyhound bus heading for Miami, plunged into the water, leaving 35 dead.
If you were living in the bay area at the time, please share your memories. We'll publish reader feedback in a special report this weekend.
