Manatee

Warm water is bringing out our manatees in the Tampa Bay area. A couple of readers have shared their photos and tales of encounters with the 'gentle giants.'

Maril Hutcheson of Madeira Beach shares a tale of an encounter off John's Pass Wednesday with her husband and stepson.

"Not only once, but twice he came back to be touched," Hutcheson wrote. "Although this picture (above) only shows our hands going to pet him, he actually allowed us to pet him over and over again. "What an awesome sight and thrill too see and pet this gentle giant."

Karen Hahn, a  photographer on a parasail boat, says this manatee "wanted its picture taken! Came right up to bow of boat" off St. Pete Beach.
