Rep. Gabrielle Giffords talked about overheated rhetoric in March 2010 interview
In March 2010, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords spoke about overheated political rhetoric and singled out a map that appeared on Sarah Palin's Facebook page. The map (below) used crosshairs to target House districts held by Democrats who voted for health care reform.
"We are on Sarah Palin's targeted list," Rep. Giffords said in the interview. "The way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of the gunsight over our district. When people do that, they have got to realize there are consequences to that action."
On Saturday, Giffords was shot in the head by a gunman who opened fire outside a grocery store during her meeting with voters, killing a federal judge and five others.
In the hours after the shooting, Palin issued a statement in which she expressed her "sincere condolences" to the family of Giffords and the other victims.
