St. Petersburg Times wins honors in American Society of News Editors contest
A St. Petersburg Times staff writer has won national honors for distinguished writing, and Times journalists were finalists in two other categories in the 2010 American Society of News Editors' journalism contest, the organization announced Wednesday.
Lane DeGregory won the Batten Medal for a portfolio of articles displaying compassion, courage and concern for the underdog. Read her winning entries:
The Times was a finalist in the online storytelling category this year for "The Golden Hour," a minute-by-minute account of the rescue of a young man struck by a car in Safety Harbor.
Editor of Editorials Tim Nickens was a finalist for his editorials about former Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom, ousted as speaker and later indicted because of his dealings with a Panhandle college and a local developer.
