Their early morning catch in St. Petersburg: 9-foot bull shark
An employee at the Pier in downtown St. Petersburg snapped this shark photo with his digital camera this morning. He said several young men fishing off the pier before sunrise caught this large bull shark. The fishermen, who reportedly drove off in a pickup truck, were not around to take credit for the catch.
The big fish was spread out on the back hatch of a small pickup, blood dripping onto the pavement as a small crowd of tourists snapped digital photos.
"It was either him or us," said the Joshua Lipert, 19, of St. Petersburg, told one of the onlookers."Look who lost."
"A very sad sight to see," Nic Weathersbee commented below. "There should be laws stopping shark fishing. maybe the pier can enforce a "no shark fishing" policy?"
David takes another view: "It's a Bull shark, lots of them in the area."
