Video links from the Times for July 17: Skydiving for control; Along came a spider
From the sky, Randy Swallows sees the world as small and distant. He doesn't think about Iraq, or the friends he lost, or how it felt to kill. He jumps 40 times a month, paying with disability checks. Only some of his injuries are physical; the rest are invisible. Watch Swallows make one of his jumps.
"I've seen big spiders, but this one, clinging to the ceiling like a bat, stole my breath. This sucker could have popped the top off a can of Crisco. We stared at each other for a second. I could almost see myself in its thousand eyes." Watch the video of this close, and scary, encounter.
