Want to complain to your Florida legislators? My Lawmaker will help you find them
State lawmakers are piecing together a budget for next year that
makes more cuts to programs and relies on billions more in federal
stimulus money to stave off even deeper reductions. The House on Friday unveiled its proposed $67.1 billion budget — about 1 percent higher than the current year — and the Senate will follow suit Monday. The House plan calls for:
- Slightly boosting public-school spending
- Draining a road-building fund,
- Pulling the plug on the popular Florida Forever land-preservation program
- Cutting by 3 percent the salaries for most state workers.
One thing that will stay intact? The free health insurance premiums that they and 27,000 other state workers enjoy thanks to a $44 million subsidy from taxpayers.
If any of these budget proposals -- or other pending legislation -- makes you angry, we've got an easy way you can let your legislators know. My Lawmaker allows Floridians to easily search for their local legislators. Just enter your home address, and the search results show your state legislators and their contact information.
