We'll answer your Pinellas school questions

Thousands of Pinellas schoolchildren could lose bus service starting next school year if the school board agrees to the move at a workshop this afternoon. Gradebook blogger Tom Tobin is there and will update with breaking news from the meeting.

The loss of bus service would affect families who opted to keep - or grandfather - their kids in their choice schools, instead of their designated close-to-home school. The district also could make a tentative decision to close five elementary schools. The schools slated to close are: Gulf Beaches, Kings Highway, North Ward, Rio Vista and Palm Harbor.

These decisions could have major impact on the lives of Pinellas students and their parents. With that in mind, the Gradebook will keep Pinellas families informed with a continuous Q&A over the next few weeks as board members consider school closings, school mergers, bus service cuts and other steps to address a budget crisis.
