Out of $334 million in cash payments sent to Florida in a multibillion dollar mortgage settlement with major banks, more than $33 million will go to help bolster the state’s budget. Florida is one of several states taking a portion of the $2.5 billion in cash payments from big banks and using it for programs not directly related to the foreclosure crisis, according to ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative journalism organization. Third-grade FCAT reading scores were released Thursday. In the Tampa Bay area, students earned these scores:
• In Pinellas County, 56 percent of students were on grade level for reading, while 17 percent earned a 1 and failed the exam. Half scored a 3 or above in math.
• In Hillsborough County, 57 percent earned proficient reading scores, while 18 percent failed. In math, 55 percent were on grade level.
• In Pasco County, 57 percent earned a 3 or above in reading and 19 percent failed. Half of the county's third graders scored a 3 or above in math.
• In Hernando County, 59 percent scored 3 or above in reading and 14 percent failed. In math, 58 percent were on grade level.

A stuntman who glided to a landing from 2,400 feet up using just a wingsuit has a friend in Pasco County to thank. Tony Uragallo designed and sewed the suit, which helped Gary Connery come in for a near-perfect landing on 18,000 cardboard boxes in the UK on Wednesday. You can read Uragallo's story here.
