Crist, Anticipating Victory

Charlie Crist started the last day of the primary campaign Monday with a pancake breakfast at a Fraternal Order of Police lodge in Jacksonville. Among the familiar faces in the crowd of 100 or so were former state Sen. Jim Horne of Orange Park, former Rep. Joe Arnall of Jacksonville Beach, and John Falconetti, a long-time Crist supporter who runs a Jacksonville printing business. It was the first event of a busy, five-city fly around that will end at the Orange Bowl in Miami, where FSU will play Miami.

Sensing an inevitable victory Tuesday, Crist can't resist the football analogies. "I learned as a quarterback a long, long time ago, you got to keep your eye on the goal," Crist said. "Run for daylight. Get in."

Then he got in a rare dig at his opponent, Tom Gallagher. Crist likes to drop names of friends in speeches (as in " ... education is important. Right, Joe?")  At the FOP lodge, Crist said: "Where's Tom? I don't mean my opponent. I become less concerned about that every day."

Crist ended his breakfast speech with a prediction. "It will be a glorious victory," he said.
