Convergys: The issue that keeps on giving for Campbell
State Sen. Walter "Skip" Campbell, D-Tamarac, was riding the problem-riddled Convergys and privatization train long before he officially jumped into the attorney general's race. But he's still enjoying the ride.
Campbell called a press conference in Tallahassee Thursday with the two whistleblowers who finally confirmed Campbell's suspicions that a Convergys subcontractor was offshoring sensitive personnel data of state employees for data indexing. Among the new tidbits from the case brought by the two Colorado women: That the subcontractor, GDX, actually sent hard drives of employee data over to India and that one of those drives is now missing; and that among the workers doing the indexing at GDX's office were ex-convicts who were still being monitored by ankle bracelets.
Campbell also used the event to unveil a new campaign ad directly attacking opponent Republican Bill McCollum as anti-whistleblower.
The 30-second spot, which the campaign won't yet divulge where it will run focuses on the congressman's 1986 bill to exempt part of the healthcare industry from enforcement of the false claims act.
