Murphy stepping down as DEC chair

Janee Murphy, chair of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee, says she will step down after three years when her term expires in December. “I’ve accomplished what I set out to do,” Murphy said, which was helping reestablish the “Democratic machine.”

Murphy, the state party secretary and a member of the Democratic National Committee, said she now hopes to establish a statewide political organization aimed at getting Democratic women elected, similar to the national group Emily’s List. She said she also intends to work on other efforts to support and mentor minority women interested in politics, and to create a statewide caucus for young Democratic professionals
