Karen Thurman Keeps Her Job

A move to oust Karen Thurman from her job as chair of the Florida Democratic Party failed Sunday at a meeting of the Democratic Executive Committee.

Committeeman George Maurer of Monroe County made a motion to remove her "for cause including but not limited to malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, incompetence."  But as the crowd seemed overwhelmingly hostile to the suggestion, Maurer withdrew his motion.

Rick Minor, chair of the Leon County Democratic Party, gave a speech accusing Maurer of "exercising very poor judgment," and making a "grab for headlines and for stealing away good will (from this convention) that should be printed in tomorrow's stories."

So Maurer agreed to withdraw his motion and most Democrats in a room gave Thurman a standing ovation.
