New York officials are trying to collect back taxes from Yankee short stop Derek Jeter, saying he claimed Florida as his primary residence when he really lived in New York. He bought a house in Tampa's tony Avila neighborhood in 1997. It's worth $1-million, according to the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's web site. Jeter registered to vote in Hillsborough County in 1996 with No Party Affiliation. He never voted, according to the Supervisor of Elections Office. In April 2003, he requested a voter I.D. card. A year later, during a routine check of voter addresses, the elections office discovered Jeter had changed his address to New York City. When he failed to respond to an address confirmation notice, they dropped him from the voter rolls.
