Florida captures mermaids

Nov1907_116

Ok, so it's not political news, but at Cabinet, DEP Sec. Mike Sole let drop that by next October, the state will be running the Weeki Wachee mermaid show and the water park as a state park.

Florida Department of Environmental Protection received notice on Monday that Weeki Wachee Springs, LLC plans to donate the springs and water park to the state. Read the letter here. The state would turn Weeki Wachee Springs into a state park and  would keep the mermaids and their show.

"We're going to keep the mermaids?" asked Gov. Charlie Crist.

"Yes, sir," Sole said.

"Excellent," Crist said. (Photo gallery of mermaids / Video from Weeki Wachee.)

"We'll need to create a new position and title, though..." Sole said.

"Ok. What? You know what, stop, this is going down bad slope," Crist said.
